The Southeast Kootenay School District is located in the spectacular Canadian Rocky Mountains in the southeast corner of British Columbia in western Canada. We invite international students in grades 8 to 12 (ages 13 to 18) to study in the Canadian Rockies and to enjoy our small-town Canadian hospitality. We may also accept international students in grades K to 7 who are accompanied by a parent or close relative.
The City of Cranbrook - (population 25,000) is the professional centre of the region, providing almost all the services found in larger cities. Students may also choose to study in the City of Fernie , with the world class Fernie Alpine Ski Resort only five minutes from town. The Southeast Kootenay region boasts some of the best mountain scenery and the greatest outdoor recreation opportunities in North America.
Our community is almost 100% English-speaking which makes it a perfect place to learn English. Tuition fees include a wide range of recreational activities that might include a trip to world-famous Banff National Park, ski or snowboard lessons (including equipment), river rafting, horseback riding, ice skating, attending ice hockey games, or visiting hot springs or cultural heritage sites such as Fort Steele Heritage Town.
The Southeast Kootenay International Education Program is small enough that that our team of caring teachers and homestay coordinators is able to give each student the individual attention he or she needs to feel at home and be successful. We offer friendly homestays and a wide range of quality education programs including all the core academic subjects, English as a Second Language and a wide variety of electives. Students may choose an academic program that leads to graduation with a British Columbia High School Diploma, or may prefer to enroll in our one year (September to June) or one semester (September or February start) English Language and Canadian Culture Program.
