Southeast Kootenay School District leads the way in providing our students with a wide variety of educational programs and services to ensure continuous improvement in student achievement. We are very proud of the many innovative, high-quality programs and services that we offer to support all learners.

The following Educational Programs and Educational Services are offered under the direction of the Superintendent and Director of Student Learning.

The International Education program is designed to provide an opportunity for students outside of Canada to enter the Southeast Kootenay School District where they can learn English within a secure and welcoming environment. By doing this, it also fosters the building of friendships between Canadian and International students and their families through the sharing of experiences and backgrounds. It further enhances school environments by exploring cultural diversity and broadening global understanding. These international students are required to apply to the district’s International Education Program and, if accepted, to pay tuition fees.

English as a Second Language
The goal of English as a Second Language Education is to assist students to become proficient in English, to develop intellectually and as citizens, and to enable them to achieve the expected learning outcomes of the provincial curriculum. Such support is provided in a school environment, which values diversity, bridges cultures and works to eliminate racism.

Languages K-12
To promote an understanding and appreciation of diversity the Southeast Kootenay School District provides opportunities to learn second languages in addition to English in all schools.

• Core French (Grades 5-12)
• French Immersion (Grades K-12) (early entry at K, late entry at grade 5)
• Other Languages (Grades 10-12, Spanish)
